CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Lady Tigers remained unbeaten in the 2018 season, taking a methodical 5-2 win in game one behind staff ace Charlie Smith(2-0), then overcame multiple deficits in game two, to finally take their first lead and the game winner in walk-off fashion on Angela Heimback's 2-RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning for an 8-7 win on Tuesday afternoon at the Hord Athletic Complex.
In the 5-2 game one win, Smith scattered 12 hits, allowing just 2 earned runs, while striking out 3 in running her record to 2-0 on the season, her 2nd complete game in two starts. Hope Dalton and Taylor Sheffield each went 2 for 3 with a double, with Sheffield scoring twice and stealing a base, and Dalton scoring a run as well as driving in one.
The game two 8-7 win saw the Tigers fall behind 6-0 after four innings, before starting their comeback with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 4th. Thomas added a run in the 5th, but the Lady Tigers countered with 3 runs in the 5th and 1 run in the 6th to set up the dramatic bottom of the 7th. Kenley Kennedy led off the inning with a walk, followed by a pair of infield singles from Sheffield and Kaylan Pruitt to load the bases, and Heimback promptly stroked the first pitch to the left-center gap, and the Tigers had their walk-off win. Sheffield went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, Heimback had a pair of hits, including a double and 4 RBI, Kennedy doubled in a pair of runs and scored twice, and Pruitt went 2 for 4 in the game. Hannah Bruce(2-0) picked up the win in the circle.
The Lady Tigers are back at the Hord Athletic Complex on Wednesday, with a doubleheader versus Enterprise State CC(AL), first game starts at 4:00 pm.
