Through His Lens: Andrew College Athletics Student-Athlete Spotlight, Jshawn Jinks
CUTHBERT, Ga - Known across the Andrew College campus for his infectious personality and welcoming demeanor, Andrew College Athletics is proud to announce Andrew College Football's Jshawn Jinks as this week's Student-Athlete Spotlight.
Jinks came to Cuthbert hailing from Savannah, Ga., by way of Albany. Although he proudly claims the historic southeast Georgia city as his home, he went on to spend several years in Albany, having graduated from Westover High School.
While at Westover, Jinks was a standout player on the gridiron, compiling an impressive résumé. During his senior season, Westover went 9-1 and Jinks was ranked No. 19 in the AAA region for tackles while earning first-team all-region honors.
Although Jinks has been a force for Andrew College Football, highlighted by a 10-tackle performance against Georgia Military College, his Cuthbert stardom does not rely solely on his athletic feats. Instead, it is more so based on his welcoming personality and willingness to build relationships with anyone across campus.
Jinks went on to be voted Mr. Freshman by his peers and credits his ability to build relationships as the key to his win.
"He's very smart, very athletic," said Jinks' mother. "Jshawn can do whatever he puts his mind to and whatever he tries to do, he tries to accomplish. He's very positive."
Like many students at Andrew College, Jinks is not tied to one particular skill set. Even though his skills on the football field helped establish his name on campus, he is also constantly spotted at various events, ready to capture the moment through his lens.
Jinks began taking pictures when one of his friends let him borrow a camera during a basketball game. Since that moment, Jinks has become known for his ability to highlight other student-athletes during competition. This further allows him to not only hone his skills, but also establish relationships with Andrew College student-athletes across all 14 sports sponsored on campus.
Along with his sports-related photography, Jinks has captured portraits, landscapes, weddings and more.
"Jshawn Jinks was a dynamic freshman defensive lineman out of Westover HS in Albany, who contributed in all nine games this year. He is a great leader and God-fearing man," said Head Football Coach Dr. Nick Garrett. "He always contributes to his teammates and puts his faith above all else.
Despite being just a freshman, Jinks is wise beyond his years and credits his mother for his upbringing. On his right forearm, Jinks has the words "God's Speed" tattooed.
When asked about his artwork, Jinks, with a smile, boldly said, "That's right. God's Speed basically means just doing everything on God's timing. If you don't feel like it's your time to do it, just pray about it and don't worry about it."
"Jshawn is a very humble guy and he's my backbone," said Jinks' mother. "All I ever asked him to do was be a man of God or nothing at all."
Andrew College is a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I school located in Cuthbert, Georgia.
