The Fighting Tigers Come Back From Double-Digits to Secure The Win

CUTHBERT, Ga.In their first home game of the spring semester, the Andrew College Men's Basketball team battled back to secure a hard-fought 86-81 victory over Southern Crescent Technical College at Jinks Gymnasium.

Andrew College struggled early and could not find its footing in the first half, entering the break trailing 50-42 and lacking momentum. However, the Fighting Tigers responded after halftime and displayed the true definition of fighting through to the end.

After shooting under 50 percent in the first half, Andrew College relied on physical play in the paint, slowly chipping away at the Southern Crescent lead. The Tigers finished the game shooting over 50 percent from the field and from long range. All 12 Tigers who saw action in Saturday afternoon's matchup scored, including four who reached double figures.

The story of the game was sophomore forward Timothy Johnson, who provided a physical presence inside to counter Southern Crescent center Magatte Naing. Johnson finished with a career-high 13 points and six rebounds.

Johnson's interior presence opened the door for guard Xavier Burkes, who posted a season-high 19 points to lead the Tigers. Rounding out the double-digit scorers were brothers Zion and Jasiyah Suber, who finished with 18 and 13 points, respectively.

While Andrew College controlled the second half, Southern Crescent guard Khaven Coachran set the tone early, scoring 18 points in the first half. After halftime, Head Coach Brian Skortz made adjustments that limited Coachran to nine points over the final 20 minutes, helping fuel the Tigers' comeback.

The Fighting Tigers return to action Monday, Jan. 12, against Brewton-Parker College at 3 p.m. In the previous meeting on Nov. 12, Andrew College earned a 109-89 victory.
