Tigers Rally From Being Down 18, Fall in Overtime, 96-91
CUTHBERT, Ga - After rallying back from being down by 18, Andrew College falls in overtime, 96-91, to East Georgia State College.
Heading into the second half, the Fighting Tigers were down nine, 43-34, a deficit that eventually ballooned to 18. However, the Fighting Tigers stuck to the game plan, cutting the lead to single digits with five minutes left in the second half.
Andrew College went on to tie the game thanks to clutch 3-pointers from Jayden Mangram and Elijah White. White tied the game at 85-85 with a heavily contested 3-pointer with 1.5 second remaining, sending Jinks Gymnasium into a frenzy.
Mangram, who was recently elevated to the varsity squad, finished the game with eight points. White led all scorers with 21 points and three assists. White has now scored in double figures in four straight games dating back to his 13-point performance against Southern Crescent Technical College on Feb. 7.
Although the story of the second half was the tandem scoring of Mangram and White, Jasiyah Suber was the offensive catalyst throughout the game. Suber finished with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists, marking his tenth double-digit scoring performance of the season.
In the first half, the Fighting Tigers jumped out to an early lead, starting the game on a 10-2 run led by their frontcourt of Suber and Koby Johnson.
Starting at the point, Suber controlled the tempo and played the role of a true floor general throughout the opening half. He opened the game with a 6-0 run of his own, highlighted by tough off-hand finishes and a smooth mid-range jumper to give Andrew a 10-2 lead. He finished the period with 10 points while shooting 5-for-9 from the field.
Despite his offensive dominance, the Tigers' eight-point lead began to dwindle, and they entered halftime down nine, 43-34. East Georgia flipped the switch, highlighted by swarming defense forcing seven Andrew turnovers in the first half.
Despite some late-game heroics, the Fighting Tigers ultimately dropped their second straight game decided in overtime. Andrew College Men's Basketball returns to action Saturday, Feb. 21, against South Georgia Technical College.
