CUTHBERT -- The Andrew College softball team rode an outstanding job in the circle from Rebecca Johnson to take game one against East Georgia State 5-3 on Saturday at the Hord Athletic Complex, before dropping the night cap 12-1. It was Sophomore Appreciation Day for the Lady Tigers, with Megan Carlson and Kaylan Pruitt honored between games with a framed jersey and other momentoes of the occasion.
Ryla Christian belted her Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCCA) leading 15th homer in the bottom of the 1st inning in game one to give the Lady Tigers an early lead, and they tacked on 2 more runs in the 3rd and 5th innings, before holding off a late rally from East Ga. to secure the 5-3 win. Johnson tossed her team leading 12th complete game, and picked up her team leading 9th win, as she scattered 8 hits and allowed just 1 earned run. Christian was 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored and an RBI, Abigail McIntosh went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Kaitlyn Classon and Carrie McWaters both were 1 for 3, with Classen driving in a run, and McWaters scoring once, and Megan Royals had an RBI.
Starter McKenzie LaCount was the tough luck loser in game two, as the Tigers committed seven errors, resulting in just one earned run charged to LaCount. Christian and McWaters both had a pair of hits, with Christian driving in her GCAA leading 52nd run of the year for the lone Tiger tally. Johnson, McIntosh, and Jordan Williams picked up a hit a piece in the mercy-rule shortened game two.
Andrew is back at the Hord Complex on Tuesday for another GCAA doubleheader versus West Ga. Tech at 2:00 pm
