CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College Tigers swept a pair of GCAA games on Saturday at the Hord Athletic Complex over East Georgia State, winning game one 5-4, then taking the nightcap 3-2 in extra innings. Both winning runs were scored on wild pitches, the second one was a walk-off winner.
In game one, Anthony Young went 2 for 3, and scored the eventual game winning run on a wild pitch that didn't kick more than 8 feet away, towards the pitchers mound, with Young getting a great read and better jump, and sliding head first to the backside of home plate. Mike Warren went 3 for 4, including a double, Cary Holloway singled in a pair of runs, Michael Branche and Lavontae LaCount both singled in runs, as the Tigers built a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Bobcats tied the game in the top of the 5th inning, before Young's efforts in the bottom of the 5th, put the Tigers back on top. Dalton Kuhn struck out 6, in 4 innings of work, before yielding to game-winner Brock Balis, who pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief. The win lifts Balis's record to 2-2 on the year. Levi Knight picked up his team-leading 5th save.
Game two saw Andrew Patrick throw 5.1 innings, allow only 2 earned runs, while striking out one, but left with another no-decision. Roman Oliu ran his record to 4-4 on the year, striking out 1 in 2.1 innings of work. Young belted a 2-run homer, his 3rd of the year, in the bottom of the 4th inning to tie the game at 2-2, setting up Blake Rupp to score the walk-off game winner in the bottom of the 8th inning. Rupp singled to lead off the 8th, advanced to 2nd on Deion Sellers single, and tagged up on Jack Bell's long fly ball to center field to reach third.
The Tigers finish up the series with East Georgia State on Sunday, with a single nine inning game at the Hord Complex, first pitch at 11:00 am.
