Tigers Split With Thomas Univ. JV at Hord on Wednesday

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College baseball team split a doubleheader with the Thomas University JV on Wednesday afternoon at the Hord Complex, taking game one 8-6, before dropping the nightcap 9-5.  The split ran the Tigers record to 8-3 on the year, the best start of Head Coach Blake Williams nine years at the helm in Cuthbert.

In game one, the Tigers erupted for 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, and held on to win 8-6, with Lorne Barineau enticing a soft liner to shallow right field that second baseman Grant Hall made a nice running catch on, to end the game with the tying run at second base. Alex Blount tossed 2 innings, scattering 3 hits, while striking out 2, to earn his 2nd win, and Barineau picked up his 2nd save on the season. Reid Ragsdale went 2 for 3, belting his first homer of the year, Jake Edwards was also 2 for 3, doubling twice and driving in a run, and Griffin Long, Kevin Henry, and Andrew Bourque each singled in a run, as the Tigers pounded out 10 hits.

The Tigers jumped out to 5-0 lead after two innings in game two, but the NightHawks rallied with 4 runs in the 3rd and 5th innings, plus a run in the 7th, to pull away for the 9-5 win. Hall went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Long belted a 2-run homer, picking up his team-leading 10th and 11th RBI, Ragsdale went 1 for 1, scored twice, and stole 4 bases to run his team-leading total to 13 stolen bases, but the Tigers fanned 11 times, and committed 5 errors to stunt any chance of a comeback. Although when your opponent hits a 3-run homer off a pitch that bounced at the plate, maybe its not going to be your night.

The Tigers are back at the Hord Athletic Complex on Saturday, taking on Coastal Alabama-East in a 1:00 pm doubleheader.
