MT. VERNON, Ga. -- Freshman Ayreon Oliver hit .295 with a match high of 18 kills to offensively lead the Fighting Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the Brewton Parker Barons on Tuesday. Freshman Barrett Earnest led the defense with 30 digs as the Andrew College Fighting Tigers defeated the Barons (25 - 20. 25 - 13, 19 - 25, 24 - 26, 15 - 8) at Gillis Stadium.
Coach Rountree said "while our offense performed very well with swings at the net, our secret weapon today was our serves. We had many girls placing balls, utilizing the weaknesses of their opponents to create scoring opportunities for our team." Standouts with their serves were Katie Kendrick with 25 serves including 4 aces and Brandi Minix with 24 serves including 4 aces. Helping out defensively was Savannah Risen with 19 digs, Grace Phillips with 17 digs, and Cara Tafoya with 13 digs. Rountree said, "It was a tremendous team effort today." That effort enabled the Andrew Fighting Tigers to walk away with a significant victory over a Southern States Athletic Conference team.
Andrew returns to action at the Jinks Gymnasium when the Fighting Tigers host Southern Union CC at 7 p.m., on Friday night.
