TIFTON, Ga. -- The Andrew College (3-2) women's soccer team opened up Region play, the first time in modern history that the team has start off conference play with a 3-0 victory over ABAC. The 2014 team tied Georgia Military College 1-1.
"This was a good result for us tonight," said head coach Cory Harbinson. "We worked on defending all week prior and you can see by the way we outshot and possesed that we were the dominat team tonight. Lots of different players' stepped up tonight and we will look to transition this result into Saturday's home match against South Georgia."
In the 11th minute, Ilaria Berni delivered a spectacular cross to a running Carleigh Hoelzel, which deflected off an ABAC defender to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead. Six minutes, the Lady Tigers continued to find success down the right side when Sydney Oliver sent a cross into the box to find substitute Sadie Springer who tucked away an easy finish to give a 2-0 lead going into the break.
After 33 minutes of back and forth action in the second half that saw chances go begging between the two sides, Berni, with her 11th collegiate goal of her career, put the icing on the cake for a decisive 3-0 win over ABAC.
For the game, Andrew College outshot ABAC, 18-1. Raquel Hauss recorded one save on the evening for her first collegiate shutout of the year.
Andrew College continues conference play this Saturday (9/12) against South Georgia State College at Hord Field. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 PM.
