Tigers Roar Pass East Georgia State

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- Dionna Marcus and Taydra Kiana Holt combined for 26 points and 20 rebounds to help Andrew College defeat East Georgia state 48-46 in overtime on Wednesday evening at Jinks Gymnasium on the campus of Andrew College.

Andrew College (8-8, 3-6 GCAA) threatened to blow the game open leading 34-25 after three quarters, but East Georgia (6-12, 2-6 GCAA) clawed back with 17 points in the fourth to level the score at 42-42 at the end of regulation.

A grity overtime period by Lady Tigers purpelled Andrew over East Georgia 48-46 after 45 minutes of action.

The Jinks Gymnasium was roaring loud as the Fighting Tiger's took the floor. The momentum seemed to be with Andrew College most of the game but East Georgia State's, Akia Dunlap, found all net with her 3-pt buckets late in the 4th quarter. Not far behind Dunlap was East Georgia's, Shunseere Kent, who seemed unstoppale late in the fourth quarter. Kent hit the shot to send the game into a 42-42 overtime game.

Heading into overtime the Fighting Tiger's adjusted into a 3-2 zone. The Tiger's were led by a momentum changing 3 pointer by, Deja Smith (Baton Rouge, La.).

Smith who was 0-4 in regulation play was fed a baseline pass from, Daycia Bandy (Live Oak, Fla.), and drilled the shot from distance.

Coach Paradise O'Malley commented on Smith's shot, "I knew she wasn't hitting them but I told her to keep shooting because it will come, sure enough, feet set, great pass and she found the connection". She continues with, "They were resilient and the persistence showed with the win, these games are fun, they teach you a lot".

Andrew College was also led by some huge contributors, Dionna Marcus (Jacksonville, Fla.) with 15 points, 10 boards and 3 steals. Marcus was joined by Taydra Holt (LaGrange, Ga.) with a double-double who chimned in with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals for the Fighting Tigers.

Andrew College returns to action when the ladies in Blue & Gold take on the three-time GCAA Region 17 champion Cavaliers of Darton State College. Tip-off at Jinks Gymnasium set for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 23.
