CUTHBERT, Ga. – On Saturday, Aug. 29, the Andrew College Men's Soccer team made history as the first Andrew College intercollegiate team to compete at home as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC). The Fighting Tigers fell in their home opener, 5-0, at Hord Athletic Complex.
Similar to their game against Georgia Southwestern, the Fighting Tigers got off to a strong start defensively. Unfortunately, the Royals eventually found the back of the net with a goal from Giovanna Carnero to open the scoring at the 12-minute mark.
Following Johnson's early goal, the Fighting Tigers couldn't find their rhythm through the remainder of the first half as they entered the break facing a 3-0 deficit.
The Fighting Tigers were unable to turn things around in the second half as Johnson added two more goals to secure the 5-0 victory.
Andrew will also need to clean up some unfortunate miscues moving forward, as the Fighting Tigers received four yellow cards in the match compared to just one from Johnson.
Despite the unfortunate result in their historic home opener, the Fighting Tigers still have plenty of time to find their footing and will look to bounce back when they face Florida College on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. in Cuthbert.
Located in Cuthbert, Georgia, Andrew College is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Fighting Tigers sponsor 16 sports and compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
