CUTHBERT, Ga. – On Thursday, Sept. 10, the Andrew College Women's Soccer team opened its conference schedule with a much-anticipated matchup against Blue Mountain Christian University out of Mississippi. The Fighting Tigers fell in the match, 8-0, at Hord Athletic Complex.
Thursday's game marked the first conference match for Andrew College Women's Soccer as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC).
From the opening kick, the Fighting Tigers struggled to slow down the Toppers' offensive attack, allowing a goal in the second minute to Daniela Vazquez Nieto. She was assisted by Nayelli Aguayo, her first of two assists on the day. Through the first 45 minutes of play, the Fighting Tigers allowed seven goals, including four in the opening 10 minutes.
In Thursday's matchup, the Fighting Tigers gave up 23 shots to the Toppers compared to just one from Andrew. Despite facing constant pressure at the net, goalkeeper
Ashlee Allen logged nine saves while defending 17 shots on goal from the Toppers.
The Fighting Tigers return to action Saturday, Sept. 12, when they face the University of Tennessee Southern for their second consecutive conference matchup of the season.
Located in Cuthbert, Georgia, Andrew College is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Fighting Tigers sponsor 16 sports and compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
