CUTHBERT, Ga. – Coming into Friday night's matchup against Wesleyan College, the Lady Tigers were poised to pick up their first conference and home win of the season. The Fighting Tigers did just that, defending their home court and taking home a 3-1 win over the Wesleyan Wolves.
How It Happened
Both teams were looking to bounce back Friday, with Wesleyan riding a 12-game skid in search of its first win of the season and Andrew having lost its last seven.
The first set was a fierce defensive matchup but eventually ended with Wesleyan taking a one-set lead, 25-21. The Fighting Tigers were not deterred by the Wolves' hot start and instead fought to defend Jinks Gymnasium. Off strong play from
Emily Calhoun, the Fighting Tigers took a commanding 11-5 lead in the second set thanks to three consecutive service aces by the junior setter. Alongside Calhoun,
Serenity Durazno-Gonder picked up a few service aces of her own as Andrew went on to win the second set, 25-20.
By the third set, both teams were familiar with each other's style and tendencies. Checkers became chess. Led by second-year Head Coach
Tevon Harris, Andrew went on to take another early lead.
Set three was led by
Ja'Nyshia Graham, who finished the match with nine kills, with the majority coming in the third frame. The Fighting Tigers took the third set in dominant fashion, 25-15, securing the frame off a well-placed tap by veteran middle blocker
Na'Laya Singleton.
With an opportunity to close out the match, Andrew knew this was its moment to take home the win. The Fighting Tigers continued to press the issue and dominated the final set, 25-14, to give the Lady Tigers their second win of the season and first at home.
Next Up
The Lady Tigers return to the court Saturday, Sept. 26, against conference foe Brewton-Parker Christian University. The match is set for 1 p.m. and marks the second consecutive home contest for the Fighting Tigers.

- Ja'Nyshia Graham led the charge with nine kills on 10 total attacks and zero attack errors. She also logged three service aces and a team-high 12 points on the night.
- Jade Timothy finished the match with eight kills, followed by Singleton with six.
- Singleton recorded six kills on 10 attempts and added a solo block for seven points.
- Emily Calhoun finished with 30 of Andrew's 32 assists and added five service aces.
