CUTHBERT, Ga. – On Wednesday, Oct. 28, the Fighting Tigers will hit the hardwood for their season opener against the Georgia Southern University Golden Eagles at Jinks Gymnasium in Cuthbert, Ga.
This marks the first season that the Andrew College Men's Basketball team will compete as members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC).
Last Season at Jinks
The Fighting Tigers Men's Basketball team is coming off a 5-25 season as members of the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), including a 2-14 conference record.
The Fighting Tigers ended the season on a 13-game losing streak. Their final game of the year came against South Georgia State College, an 86-74 loss that ultimately cost Andrew a spot in the 2026 GCAA Conference Tournament.
Meet the Fighting Tigers
Coming into the 2026-27 season, the Fighting Tigers' roster features just three returners from last year's squad including
Mantrel Mosley,
Michael Shaw II and 2026 freshman standout
Jayden Mangram.
However, despite having a primarily new roster, the Fighting Tigers have added several talented players to the blue and gold. Among the newcomers to watch are
Amir Rosa and
K'Shawn Scott.
Rosa is a junior guard from Marietta, Ga., who comes to Andrew after transferring from Arkansas Southeast Community College. Over 28 games during the 2025-26 season, Rosa averaged 16.1 points and five rebounds per game. He also shot 37.2% from beyond the arc, providing Andrew with some much-needed variety on the offensive end.
Scott is another talented wing and a senior transfer from Oakland City University. In 27 games played during the 2025-26 season, Scott averaged nine points per game while shooting 51.3% from the field. According to head coach
Brian Skortz, Scott provides a veteran presence and is expected to make an immediate impact on both sides of the ball.
The Opponent: The Golden Eagles
The Fighting Tigers will face Georgia Southern University East in Wednesday's season opener. This marks the third game of the season for the Golden Eagles, who enter the matchup with a 1-1 overall record following an 89-63 victory over fellow SSAC member Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
Despite their bounce-back win, the Golden Eagles opened their season with a nail-biting 95-91 loss to Thomas University in regulation.
Georgia Southern East was led in scoring by Malcolm Warthen, who finished with 22 points. Warthen will be a player to watch as he enters Wednesday's matchup averaging 17.5 points per game.
He is one of six Golden Eagles currently averaging double figures, alongside Tahj Evans (17.0 ppg), Jayden Maxwell (13.0 ppg), AJ Muller (11.5 ppg), Cooper Wiley (10.5 ppg) and Kyleston Gill (10.5 ppg).
