Andrew College Splits Friday's DoubleHeader vs. Wallace Community
CUTHBERT, Ga - Back at Hord Athletic Complex, the Fighting Tigers entered Friday's matchup ready to get back in the win column. Not only did they dominate the competition, but they ended Game 1 early with a walk-off home run from Cameron Kenney, securing a 12-2 victory in the bottom of the sixth inning opposite Wallace Community College-Dothan.
From the first pitch, the Tigers were in full control. With the bases loaded, Brady DeRosso cleared the bases with a two-out double to give Andrew an early 3-0 lead. The Tigers were not finished, extending their advantage to four with another two-out hit from Haiden Schultz.
In the bottom of the fourth, holding a 6-1 lead with one runner on, Luke Meszar launched his first home run of the season over the left-field wall to make it 8-1. Andrew College went on to post its second four-run inning of the game in the fourth. Andrew would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.
Game 2
Despite a late rally to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Tigers fell 11-9 in eight innings in Game 2, splitting Friday's doubleheader.
After a three-run first inning from Wallace Community, Andrew's bats stayed hot as 3B Kenney launched his second home run of the day to cut the Wallace lead to one, 3-2.
Unfortunately, Wallace went on to score four unanswered runs. Despite the uphill battle facing the Fighting Tigers, they stayed locked in throughout the game, especially SS Meszar. In the bottom of the third, Meszar launched a home run of his own for his second of the day.
Following Meszar's home run, the comeback was in full swing. Meszar followed up his third-inning blast with his second home run of the game and third of the day, cutting the Wallace lead in half, 8-4. Kenney followed that power surge with a mammoth home run to dead center for his second long ball of the game.
In the bottom of the seventh, a DeRosso triple cut the lead to one before he eventually scored on a throwing error on the following play.
Despite the late rally and an eighth-inning triple from Meszar, giving him three extra-base hits in the contest, the Fighting Tigers allowed three runs in the top of the eighth, giving Andrew too large of a deficit to overcome.
The Fighting Tigers return to action Monday, Feb. 9, for a doubleheader against Thomas University. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Andrew College is a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I school located in Cuthbert, Georgia.
