Massanet’s 10th-Inning Blast Secures Win for Fighting Tigers
CUTHBERT, Ga - Following their 14-run outing against Gordon State College on Tuesday, March 24, the Fighting Tigers traveled to Barnesville for a tightly contested rematch. Andrew secured a 12-11 extra-inning victory, highlighted by a go-ahead home run from Jose Massanet in the 10th inning to earn back-to-back wins.
Massanet has been an all-around force and continued his strong play with a two-hit performance, recording his fifth multi-hit game of the season while extending his hitting streak to nine games.
His 10th-inning blast marked his third home run of the season and the first go-ahead home run of his collegiate career.
Thursday's game remained competitive throughout. Andrew jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and added to it with a five-run third to take an 8-2 advantage. However, the Highlanders responded with four multi-run innings, eventually tying the game in the bottom of the ninth.
Andrew ultimately answered in extra innings, securing the 12-11 victory.
With the win, the Fighting Tigers move up to No. 4 in the GCAA standings. Andrew will close out the week with a doubleheader against Gordon State on Saturday, with Game 1 first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
Andrew College is a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I school located in Cuthbert, Georgia. The Fighting Tigers sponsor 16 sports and compete in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. Andrew College will move to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, effective July 1, 2026.
